Cycling on the Lower Rhine – your base camp in Wesel-Büderich

Flat, wide and full of variety: the Lower Rhine is one of Germany's finest cycling regions. From the Gartenblick holiday apartment it's just a few minutes' walk to the Rhine dyke (Rheindamm) – from there you roll straight onto well-surfaced long-distance cycle paths. An ideal starting point for day trips, whether on your own bike or an e-bike.

Right by the dyke

Rhine cycle path (EuroVelo 15) along the Rhine dyke

The Rhine cycle path (Rheinradweg), part of the European long-distance route EuroVelo 15, runs right past Büderich. You cycle along the river on level, largely traffic-free tracks – northwards towards Rees and Emmerich, southwards towards Rheinberg and Duisburg. Thanks to the gentle gradients, the route is well suited to leisurely tours and to beginners alike.

Because the dyke is only a few minutes' walk away, you avoid having to manoeuvre through traffic: you wheel the bike out of the garage and you're on the cycle path almost immediately.

Network & orientation

NiederrheinRoute & the junction (Knotenpunkt) system

If you prefer to ride away from the river through fields, meadows and villages, follow the NiederrheinRoute – one of the largest interconnected cycle networks in Europe. Thanks to the junction (Knotenpunkt) system you can plan your loop very easily: at numbered junctions you simply pick the next number, and your route is set. We keep cycling maps on hand for you.
